Bülent Akın was born in Berlin, Germany in 18 July 1980. When he was six years old, Akın had his first baglama that was a gift from his older brother, Zeynel Akın and took his first baglama lessons from Zeynel.
Akın graduated from Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Harran University in 2006 and completed his master degree at Turkish Folklore Department, Dicle University. He started to work as a lecturer of Turkish folk literature at Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Siirt University in 2009.
Akın came to Izmir to do his Ph.D. on Turkish folklore at Institute of Turkish World Studies, Ege University and started to work as a research assistant at the same institute. He remained at Ege University to complete his doctorate for six years and defended his dissertation on Turkmen Alevi ocaks in Diyarbakir in March 2017.
Bülent Akın joined the band “Muştak” in 2011 and continued his music career with this band. He is still a member of Muştak.
Akın has participated in a lot of rituals of various Alevi groups for many years and so found an opportunity to observe closely the rituals. These participations give him a chance to ingenuously reflect Alevi culture in his performances. He has a considerable amount of works on Alevi-Bektashi belief system and traditional performers of Alevi-Bektashi rituals, “Zakir”s.
